Role: Writer, Content Creator, Editorial Assistant
Fathers Quarterly Magazine is a growing online niche magazine providing content for fathers at every stage of their parenthood journey. I joined the team in 2017 as a writer. I worked closely with the editors to create articles for the quarterly magazine, researching assignments, liaising with potential partners, advertisers and brands and writing and editing articles to deadline.
During my time with the magazine I created various SEO content which I managed through Wordpress. I worked with SEO tools (SemRush and Google AdWords) to identify topics of interest relevant to the brand and repurposing salient content. In addition to content creation I also managed social media accounts, composing posts, engaging with comments, monitoring metrics to identify trends and creating a content cycle using Hootsuite and Buffer.
Role: Content Creator
In 2017 I worked closely with the Marketing Director at Fusebox Games to promote the X Factor Life game on the company’s social media accounts. This involved working with influencers, retweeting content, sharing insta stories of backstage prep and liaising with finalists to create promos for the game. I crafted copy for assets used on the app store and google play and worked with our art team to create on brand social media posts to tease in-game content and upcoming episodes of the game. and scripted one minute commercials which ran during the show’s final and semi-final.
In 2018 I worked with Marketing again to create copy for a series 30 second videos promoting Love Island 2.
Role: Script Writer
In 2020 at the height of COVID, Wooga’s social media team decided to put together a campaign to bring our player community together and spread a little joy. I was given the task of creating a four part detective story to engage players in a mystery. The end product was Murder Most Fowl, a spoof of the detective genre, written with the community management team in mind.
With the brand and community in mind, I outlined and approved a four part spoof. In two months, I wrote and edited four three minute scripts. I worked closely with the production team, participating in table readings to polish the scripts and timings. I also helped to cast the role of Mrs Marbles, helped to scout for locations and make script edits on the day of the shoot. It was a wonderful experience that taught me how to edit on the spot and rethink concepts on location.
The end product was some wonderfully hammy acting that drove engagement to our facebook page and the Café feature. The response from the community was positive and we got to spread some joy at a time it was much needed. You can see the final product on Wooga’s Youtube page.
Role: Senior Writer
In 2021, I worked with marketing and design teams to create a fun competition to celebrate June’s Journey’s 3rd anniversary. I helped to come up with the concept of June’s disappearance as the inciting incident to immerse our community in a mystery and save June in time to celebrate the game’s anniversary.
The campaign was carried out across multiple platforms, guiding players to search for clues on our social media accounts, in our collaborations with influencers and the game itself. I worked closely with the design and marketing team to create a narrative that worked with the ideas for the campaign and set up a content schedule. Together with other writers I created short stories, riddles, social media posts, video scripts and took part in a live AMA as the Conductor, the mastermind behind June’s disappearance.
The campaign was a success with players from all over taking part in the fun, playing the live game and engaging with content across platforms. It was great fun to engage directly with the community and work with the marketing team once again. And needless to say, June was returned home safe and sound in time for the anniversary celebrations and our top detectives received wonderful prizes for their efforts.
